Enable live IR data 150 150 Support

The Inland Revenue (IR) data is obtained from a direct integration between myIR and TMNZ. Once you have connectivity, your clients’ IR data will flow straight through to show on the TMNZ dashboard. Follow the steps below to activate this integration.

Please note: If you have an existing IR integration, please follow the re-authentication instructions here.

Step 1

Log in to the dashboard

In the search bar at the top, go to the Tax Firms tab and select the tax firm which is linked to the clients you would like to connect to myIR. Click on the Integration tab that has now appeared on the left-hand side menu.

Step 2

Add your Tax Agent, Client List details and authenticate with myIR

Add the individual client list for authentication with your IR Tax Agent ID and Client List ID. To find where they are, please refer to ‘Where can I find my Tax Agent ID and Client List ID’.

Insert the Tax Agent ID and Client List ID to the respective boxes and click Sync with myIR.

You’ll be taken to myIR. Please enter your log in details to proceed.

You will be taken back to the TMNZ dashboard, and you’ll see your client list begin downloading.

Click on Expand to see the client list.

Step 3

Toggle taxpayer/s to connect myIR data

Choose either to Sync all clients or use the individual toggles to enable connection for individual taxpayers.

You're all set!

IR data will be used automatically to streamline the tax calculator and other tax pooling processes.

FAQs

  • IR data connectivity with TMNZ makes tax pooling quicker, easier, and more accurate. You can focus on reviewing the transactions and payment options rather than preparing them. Here are some of the real-time data sharing benefits for agents:

    • Easier to set up – automatically add taxpayers using their details from IR and request consent digitally
    • Save time – prepopulate RIT information in our easy-to-use tax calculator
    • Improve accuracy – taxpayers info including terminal tax dates and existing payments will be correctly populated
    • Reduce risk – by minimising manual data entry and human errors

You can contact our friendly customer service team for any further support here.

  • The integration connects your firm’s TMNZ dashboard to myIR – Inland Revenue’s own online services portal – via Inland Revenue’s Gateway Services APIs.

TMNZ is a registered Inland Revenue Digital Services Provider (DSP). This means:

    • TMNZ has been granted approved access to Inland Revenue’s Gateway Services APIs
    • The connection is made using your firm’s own Tax Agent ID and Client List ID, authenticated directly through myIR
    • Your firm authenticates the connection yourself by logging into myIR – TMNZ never holds your myIR login credentials
    • You control which clients are synced – you can enable all clients or toggle them individually
    • (Re-)authentication is done per client list (not per individual client), and only by the agent who has full myIR access to that list

This is the same secure channel used by accounting software providers across New Zealand. The data flows directly from Inland Revenue to your TMNZ dashboard.

  • TMNZ is subject to Inland Revenue’s Operational Security Framework (OSF) – a mandatory security framework that applies to all Digital Service Providers using Inland Revenue’s Gateway Services.

The OSF is designed to ensure:

    • Protection of sensitive financial and personal data from unauthorised access or misuse
    • Prevention of fraud and identity theft
    • Continuity of services – cyber or security incidents cannot disrupt access
    • Ongoing compliance – DSPs undergo a full security assessment every 3 years, with annual delta assessments if their security posture changes

The OSF is based on the international ISO 27001 (Security) and ISO 42001 (AI) standards, with explicit controls to ensure the security of taxpayer data.

TMNZ is also subject to IR’s terms and conditions which include obligations to notify IR and yourselves of any data security incidents.

  • No. The integration is controlled by your firm.

    • You authenticate using your own myIR account – TMNZ does not have access to myIR
    • You choose which clients are connected (individual toggles or all-clients sync)
    • The data retrieved is only the relevant clients’ Inland Revenue account information – a subset of data you can already see in myIR as their agent
    • You can re-authenticate or update the connection at any time
